Carter Verhaeghe Signs Eight-Year Extension With Florida Panthers
Panthers all-time playoff goals leader Carter Verhaeghe signed an eight-year deal carrying a $56 million annual price tag to remain in South Florida.
SUNRISE, Fla. — The Florida Panthers announced that Carter Verhaeghe was signed to an eight-year contract extension carrying a $56 million price tag. The contract will carry a $7 annual salary cap hit.
Verhaeghe agreed to the contract hours before the team’s 6-4 win over the Boston Bruins in their season opener on Tuesday.
The 29-year-old has 118 goals and 236 points in 278 games with Florida and holds the franchise playoff records for goals, even-strength points, overtime goals and game-winning goals.
He also has two series-clinching overtime goals: one in 2022 against the Washington Capitals to secure the franchise’s first playoff series win since 1996 and one in 2023 against the Boston Bruins to complete a 3-1 series comeback against the team that held the best regular season record in NHL history.
Verhaeghe’s contract will come into effect at the start of the 2025-26 season and will expire in 2033.
The Panthers now have a large portion of their core locked up, with Verhaeghe joining Aleksander Barkov, Matthew Tkachuk, Gustav Forsling, Anton Lundell, Sam Reinhart and Dmitry Kulikov on the list of players locked up through the 2027-28 season.
