The Florida Panthers announced their training camp roster ahead of the 2024-25 season.
The Panthers made a couple of new additions to their roster, adding veteran forward Matt Luff on a professional try-out offer and journeyman goaltender Ken Appleby on an AHL contract.
Luff is a 27-year-old forward who spent all of last season with the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins after splitting much of his time between the NHL and AHL throughout his career. Luff has 15 goals and 27 points in 106 career NHL games.
Appleby, 29, spent last year as the organizational No. 3 for the New York Islanders and could add depth to Florida’s goalie room. He has played three NHL games in his career, including one for the Islanders this past season.
Forwards Aidan McDonough and John Leonard are also new additions to the Panthers’ training camp roster.
McDonough, 24, scored 11 goals and 19 points in 58 games for the AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks last season. He played six NHL games for the Vancouver Canucks in 2022-23, scoring a goal, after scoring 20 goals and 38 points in 34 games during his senior season for Northeastern University.
John Leonard, 26, split the 2023-24 season between the AHL and NHL with the Arizona Coyotes organization. He scored 12 goals and 32 points in 63 games in the minors while scoring a goal in six games with the big club. He has six goals and 17 total points in 70 career NHL games spanning across four seasons.
Florida will kick off its Stanley Cup title defense with a three-day training camp starting on Sept. 19 leading up to a preseason double-header with the Nashville Predators on Sept. 22 at Amerant Bank Arena.
The lone training camp practice that is open to the public will be on Saturday, Sept. 21. Fans will be able to watch practice from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Baptist Health IcePlex in Fort Lauderdale and festivities will last up until 6 p.m.
Some of those festivities include free skating lessons, family activities and games, and appearances from mascots Stanley C. Panther and Vitkor E. Ratt.
