Florida Panthers Cancel Ring Ceremony Due to Hurricane Milton
The Florida Panthers axed their Stanley Cup championship ring ceremony as the state of Florida braces for Hurricane Milton
The Florida Panthers canceled their Stanley Cup Championship ring ceremony scheduled on Monday due to the potential impacts of Hurricane Milton.
“As this event would take resources from first responders and service providers, we have made the tough decision to cancel our Champions Ring Ceremony out of an abundance of caution for the safety of all involved. We will instead distribute our championship rings privately,” said President and CEO Matt Caldwell via a statement from the team.
“Along with state and local authorities, we are closely monitoring the situation. As of now, Opening Night vs. Boston is scheduled to proceed as intended and we will continue preparing our arena and surrounding areas to safely welcome guests for Opening Night.”
The Hurricane has placed numerous counties under a state of emergency, including Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade, and is projected to make landfall in Florida on Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.
As of now, the Panthers are still planning on playing their season opener against the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise.
Fans will be issued a refund for their tickets to the ring ceremony from their initial point of purchase.
This is a developing story which will be updated when new information becomes available.
