Florida Panthers Defenseman Aaron Ekblad Suspended for 20 Games for Using Performance Enhancing Substances
Aaron Ekblad will be suspended without pay until Game 3 of the first round of the playoffs for violating the NHL’s performance enhancing substances policy.
The NHL announced that it will be suspending Florida Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad 20 games for violating its performance enhancing substances policy.
Per a statement from the league, under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, the suspension is accompanied by mandatory referral to the NHL/NHLPA Program for Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health for evaluation and possible treatment.
The NHL had no further comment on the matter.
Ekblad had three goals and 33 points in 56 games this season.
He finished the season on an active six-game point streak, where he had seven assists in that span.
Ekblad is set to be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason.
