Florida Panthers: Lines, Updates, Preview for Feb. 2 Game vs. New York Islanders
Adam Boqvist will make his return to South Florida days after getting claimed off waivers by the New York Islanders.
Just one day after making his New York Islanders debut, Adam Boqvist will make his return to South Florida.
Boqvist’s tenure with the Florida Panthers ended when he was claimed off waivers on Friday after he scored two goals and six points in 18 games.
The 24-year-old defenseman added another goal to that tally in his Islanders debut on Saturday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
When he arrived in South Florida, the Panthers had hoped Boqvist would fill a void on the top power play unit and on the right side of the defense that was created when Brandon Montour left for Seattle in the offseason.
Only an injury in the season opener gave an opportunity for Uvis Balinskis and Nate Schmidt to fill roles on the blueline and he never seemed to be able to jump back ahead of them in the depth chart.
"Knock on wood, this year I've been healthy the whole year,” Boqvist said via Newsday’s Andrew Gross.
“But I think there were people, they didn't appreciate my game, what I brought to the team and they thought the other players were better to play. I'm excited for a fresh start."
Boqvist joins an Islanders team that has won its past seven games and is three points behind the Lightning for the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.
He will look to help close that gap against his former team.
