Washington has won eight of its last 10 games (8-2-0) and has recently became the first team in the NHL to clinch a playoff spot. The Capitals have a 12-point lead over the Carolina Hurricanes for first place in the Metropolitan Division.
Alex Ovechkin is seven goals away from breaking the NHL’s goals record, currently sitting at 888 goals.
Florida is coming off of a 1-0 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets which snapped a stretch of three losses in its past four games. The Panthers sit in a tie with the Toronto Maple Leafs for first place in the Atlantic Division with 13 games remaining on their schedule.
The Capitals won both of their previous meetings with the Panthers, defeating them 4-1 in Sunrise on Nov. 25 and 6-3 on Feb. 4.
