The Florida Panthers mortgaged a good portion of their future on Seth Jones. Is he worth it?
The Florida Panthers made what could be their first big trade deadline swing on Saturday night, acquiring Seth Jones and a fourth-round pick from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Spencer Knight and a conditional first-rounder.
Jones addresses a major issue for the Panthers.
They were lacking a bonafide Top 4 right-handed defenseman behind Aaron Ekblad — one who could run a power play unit and log heavy minutes — all season and it reared its ugly head in certain situations.
But to give up a first-round pick and the potential goaltender of the future is a tough ask for a defenseman who has a plus/minus of minus-108 in four seasons in Chicago.
