Florida Panthers Star Sam Reinhart Gaining Ground in Tight MVP Race
With points in 16 of his past 17 games, Sam Reinhart is making his case for a spot in the NHL’s Hart Trophy race.
After a 57-goal season many people thought he could not follow up, Sam Reinhart has established himself as a contender for the Hart Trophy.
The Florida Panthers star has been on fire to start the 2024-25 campaign, scoring 18 goals, 34 points and boasting a plus/minus of plus-10.
Reinhart has points in 16 of his past 17 games going into Tuesday night’s clash with the Pittsburgh Penguins, scoring 13 goals and 22 points in the process.
With the Panthers in contention for the top spot in the Atlantic Division once again — and Reinhart contributing Selke-quality defense on the penalty kill and at 5-on-5 — it is very likely he could make some noise in the MVP race as well.
“He is so smart that I play him No. 1 minutes,” coach Paul Maurice said. “He plays on the power play, he’s the first off the bench on the penalty kill, we drag him over to Finland and back. He’s not the biggest guy in the world. He’s a solid, very fit man, but if he gets behind it in terms of energy level, he can still produce. He just thinks his away around the game a little different.”
