Panthers Fall to Canucks, 3-2, in Overtime
The Florida Panthers extended their point streak to three games but fell 3-2 in overtime to the Vancouver Canucks.
SUNRISE —Vancouver Canucks star J.T. Miller scored 2:09 into overtime to hand the Florida Panthers a 3-2 loss in their first game back from a four-game road trip on Thursday night.
Florida now stands at 2-1-1 without Aleksander Barkov and Matthew Tkachuk in the lineup, extending their point streak to three games with the overtime loss.
Teddy Blueger put the Canucks ahead 1-0 with a wrap-around goal that Sergei Bobrovsky came within inches of stopping 11:47 into the first period.
Bobrovsky got his pad on the puck just as it was nearing the blue line, but upon review, he just got to it a few moments too late as it fully crossed the goal line.
Jesper Boqvist tied the game up six seconds later, jamming home the rebound of a Mackie Samoskevich rebound with 8:06 to go for his first goal as a Panther. The assist marked Samoskevich’s first NHL point in the 13th game of his career.
Evan Rodrigues appeared to give Florida a 2-1 lead 44 seconds into the first on yet another wrap-around, but Kevin Lankinen was able to get to it. Upon review, Lankinen stuffed Rodrigues right at the red goal line to keep the puck out and the game tied.
Quinn Hughes gave Vancouver the lead 6:30 into the middle frame with a blast of a slap shot after the Canucks took possession of the puck off of a face-off where the puck took a funky bounce off Nils Aman’s hand.
Florida coach Paul Maurice challenged the play for a missed game stoppage, more specifically a hand pass, but the NHL ruled that it did not constitute a hand pass because it deflected off his glove during the face=off, in accordance to Rule 79.1.
Anton Lundell tied the game up at 2-all with 59.5 seconds to go, ripping the puck into the top left corner for his fourth goal in the past three games.
