SUNRISE, Fla. — Sergei Bobrovsky has been outright dominant for the Florida Panthers as of late.
That much was apparent once again as he picked up a 16-save shutout his former Columbus Blue Jackets to collect his second clean sheet in three games in a 3-0 victory on Thursday night. Bobrovsky has only allowed one goal on 68 shots — an astounding .985 save percentage — in that span.
And that is the play the Panthers need from Bobrovsky after shipping goalie-of-the-future Spencer Knight off to the Chicago Blackhawks for Seth Jones.
Even at 36 years old, Bobrovsky is the goalie-of-the-future now.
“The future of the Florida Panthers is Sergei Bobrovsky,” coach Paul Maurice said. “This guy is still in his prime. I mean, you look at his age, and that’s fine, but he is in his prime right now.
“He is playing the best hockey he’s ever played. He feels good. So, I don’t think we’re looking too far down the road, but nobody expires here on a certain date. Sergei is playing in his prime and he could play for another five years if he wants.”
