Sergei Bobrovsky Gets the Hook in 5-2 Florida Panthers Loss to Detroit Red Wings
The Florida Panthers fall to 3-4-1 since Jan. 1 with a 5-2 loss to the Detroit Red Wings.
Sergei Bobrovsky was given the hook in a 5-2 Florida Panthers loss to the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday night.
Bobrovsky was pulled for Spencer Knight with 4:19 to go in the second period after giving up four goals on 15 shots.
The team in front of him was not doing any favors, going 1-for-4 against a Red Wings power play that ranks second in the NHL before he was yanked in the second period.
Jonatan Berggren started the Red Wings power play goal brigade 8:48 into the game. Anton Lundell answered back by tipping one a Carter Verhaeghe pass 1:13 later.
Dylan Larkin tipped home a Patrick Kane feed on the power play 7:52 into the second period to put Detroit ahead again. Florida answered back 29 seconds later when Evan Rodrigues wired a snap shot via a slick cross-ice feed from Mackie Samoskevich past Cam Talbot.
Patrick Kane gave Detroit the lead back with 6:16 to go in the second period, beating Bobrovsky on the power play. Marco Kasper slipped a quick wrist shot off the rush 1:57 later to extend the Red Wings’ lead to two and give Bobrovsky the hook.
Knight made four saves in relief, with the Panthers outshooting the Red Wings 23-5 in the third period, but Florida could not come up with a comeback.
Larkin scored an empty-net goal with 1:22 to go to seal the win for Detroit.
