TAKEAWAYS: Calgary Flames 3, Florida Panthers 0
The Florida Panthers suffered their second straight shutout loss in a 3-0 dud against the Calgary Flames on Saturday night.
For a second straight game, the Florida Panthers were shut out.
Florida captain Aleksander Barkov was a late scratch for Saturday night’s game with an illness and everything went downhill from there in a 3-0 loss to the Calgary Flames.
Just 8:57 into the game, Dmitry Kulikov turned the puck over and Nazem Kadri took advantage on the partial breakaway to put Calgary up 1-0. Aaron Ekblad beat Dustin Wolf with a quick wrist shot less than a minute later, but he just rang the bottom of the post.
After the Panthers dominated puck possession in the first period, the Flames appeared to strike again early in the second period. Mikael Backlund appeared to give Calgary a 2-0 when he kicked a rebound past Knight with 8:26 to go in the second period, but it was quickly taken off the board after a video review.
Blake Coleman gave Calgary a two-goal lead — for real — when he beat Knight with a quick wrist shot off the rush with 54.7 seconds to go in the second period. Backlund got his goal back 6:17 into the third when he beat Knight high glove side on another goal off the rush.
Flames goaltender Dustin Wolf finished the night with a 32-save shutout.
The Panthers remain tied with the Toronto Maple Leafs after the loss and will face the Edmonton Oilers in a Stanley Cup Final rematch on Monday.
