TAKEAWAYS: Vancouver Canucks 4, Florida Panthers 0
The Florida Panthers suffered their first shutout loss of the season to snap their seven-game point streak.
Kevin Lankinen handed the Florida Panthers their first shutout loss of the season, leading the Vancouver Canucks to a 4-0 victory.
Florida had not been shut out since March 21, when Lankinen stopped all 37 shots he faced in a Nashville Predators win. He came up with 27 saves on Thursday night to shut them out again in a Canucks uniform.
The first goal the Panthers allowed sums things up pretty well.
Tomas Nosek took a spill in the offensive zone, leading to an odd-man rush coming the other way. Carson Soucy was left open in the middle of the ice off the rush and wired home a wrist shot 2:23 into the game.
Vancouver capitalized off the rush again when Danton Heinen was left all alone on a 3-on-2 rush with Max Sasson and Teddy Blueger and beat Bobrovsky with a shot that trickled in off his blocker.
Brock Boeser made it a three-goal game 4:53 into the second period, picking up his own rebound and potting it home on yet another rush chance. Jake DeBrusk tacked on a power play goal late in the third, deflecting a Hughes shot that fluttered past Bobrovsky.
The Panthers saw their seven-game point streak (6-0-1) come to an end and are now tied with the Toronto Maple Leafs for first in the Atlantic Division after they beat the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night.
Here are three takeaways from Thursday night’s Florida Panthers loss to the Vancouver Canucks:
