Tkachuk, Nosek Skate; Gadjovich Out vs. Golden Knights for Panthers

FORT LAUDERDALE — Florida Panthers forwards Matthew Tkachuk and Tomas Nosek both got some work in on the ice ahead of Saturday’s morning skate.

Tkachuk had been missing for the past week with an illness and is on track to return for Tuesday night’s game against the Minnesota Wild.

“He’s feeling better today, but he won’t play tonight,” coach Paul Maurice said. “Matthew skated this morning, felt really good, so we believe we’re on the timeline for Minnesota.”

Nosek skated for the first time since leaving the Panthers’ first preseason game of the year with an injury after taking a hard fall into the boards.

He was placed on LTIR before the start of the season and is expected to return when he becomes eligible to when Florida makes its trip up to Finland for the NHL’s Global Series in November.

“Nosek will be ready to go for Finland,” Maurice said.

Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov, also among the group that skated ahead Florida’s morning skate on Saturday morning.

Maurice said the captain is still on track to return to the lineup during next week’s trip to New York.

Jonah Gadjovich will be out of the lineup after something “tightened up on him” during the first period of Florida’s 3-2 overtime loss to Vancouver on Tuesday.

The Panthers will be forced to play a man short (10 forwards, seven defensemen) due to salary cap constraints, but will likely avoid needing to make an emergency recall on Tuesday with Tkachuk expected to return.

Sergei Bobrovsky will start in net on Saturday night against the Vegas Golden Knights.
